Dental X-rays (radiographs) are images of your teeth that your dentist uses to evaluate your oral health. X-rays can be used to show areas of decay that may not be visible with an oral exam, especially small areas between teeth or decay occurring beneath an existing filling. It can reveal bone loss that accompanies gum disease or show changes in root canal resulting from infection. X-rays are also taken to determine the success of endodontic treatment.
While dental X-rays do involve radiation, the exposed levels are so low that they’re considered safe for children and adults. Our dentist will also place a lead apron over your chest, abdomen, and pelvic region to prevent any unnecessary radiation exposure to your vital organs.
